Paestum By Bryan

 Paestum

By Bryan

After an early morning bus following a night with rough WiFi, Paestum suddenly appears out of nowhere. Here, we saw three temples rising out of a flat plain.

What struck me the most about this site is that its preservation was not due to any human protection; instead, it was well-preserved due to centuries of abandonment because this area had become so malarial. As a result, nobody lived there and nobody took from it for its materials like many other ancient sites.

Walking between columns that have stood for over two thousand years, I felt the presence of something that has simply refused to be forgotten. To me, the weight of something so old still standing strongly was heavier than anything I had expected to feel when I had first read about this place.
