Pompeii was a town for working-class romans, but Oplontis was two luxury villas (Villa A and Villa B) in which two wealthy individuals lived: Poppaea Sabina, the second wife of Emperor Nero, and Lucius Cassius Tertius, a merchant or landowner. We primarily walked through Poppaea’s home, and we noticed many frescoes on the walls. We also saw a large courtyard in the main villa, as well as a smaller one for Poppaea’s slaves.

Those in Oplontis were also killed and preserved by the eruption’s pyroclastic flow, and we were able to see the positions of sleeping bodies as they were covered by the hot ash.
