Cumae

Cumae was such a wonderful start to connecting us to Naples and our learnings in AP Latin! When visiting the Sybil’s Cave we knew from readings that she guided Aeneas to the Underworld, and so we were very excited to visit. Getting to actually visit the location the Sybil stayed and experience some of the same awe the Greeks and Romans must have felt stepping into the cave was a breathtaking experience. Not only did we get to learn more about the stories and legends of Roman and Greek times, we also got to learn more about both peoples’ architecture styles and how to tell the differences.
One of my favorite parts was walking through the ruins of the temple of Diana and spotting the differences between Greek and Roman architecture. That, and getting to see an inscription in Latin with my name on it. Cumae was amazing to visit and a wonderful start to connecting our knowledge to modern times!
