Last day in Sorrento

Dolce far’ niente. Loosely translated to “the sweetness of doing nothing”. This Friday we took up a fulfilling day of rest in the lemon-filled city of Sorrento which sits on the Gulf of Naples. This was a day of rest dedicated to separating us from the grand, organized chaos of Rome and the museum fatigue we had developed over the course of the trip; a day of freedom to “Rome” around the city for a few hours.

Following 90 minute bus ride from the villa made it difficult NOT to stare out the window at the picturesque coast. Upon stepping out of the bus into the brisk, tepid Italian air, as always the bathroom was the first stop. If there’s anything I’ve learned in this trip about traveling, it’s to use the bathroom when you can if you know you won’t be able to again for a while. A lesson I contemplated when, for the first time this trip, I had to pay 0.5 euro just to enter.

Throughout the day, plenty of photo and shopping opportunities presented themselves. Jewelry was bought. Matching lemon hats were purchased. Truly, a perfect, serene ending to our long adventures.
