Our Last Night in Rome--by Lucie

Saturday Night

Tonight was our last day in the city of Rome! Early tomorrow morning we will be traveling to Naples, which we are all ready for. It will be a nice change of pace and slightly less crowded! We ended our fabulous first leg of the trip with a nice dinner about two blocks away from Casa la Salle. The owner of the restaurant was quite the character! He kept messing with Heidi... Stealing her phone... Dragging her in her chair around the table! Before dinner Trevor pulled a very eloquent speech out of his day pack about the lovely "all-day bars" (high-protein energy bars he carries around for us in case of a snack emergency), about how ROME is the all day bar of the world.
Trevor addresses the crowd with some words about our time in Rome.

Next we went around the table and discussed what we learned from our experience in the city of Rome. The trip made many of us feel more in tune with other cultures and parts of the world outside the U.S. Also many people learned a lot about communication and being independent. As much of this trip is team work and everyone working together, it is equally independent, there is quite a bit of responsibility involved in travel! The group has been awesome at staying on top of things though! We became especially good at clustering, in order to get out of the way of crowds and stick together in the busy subways! Thx Chris Berry and Robin Wheeler for your public transportation education :)

You may think that after dinner we went on a nice stroll home...
On the contrary, our journey home was more like a full-out sprint! Rain had been in the forecast for today, but held off, until now! This was not a light Washington rain this was a FULL-ON DOWNPOUR!  With Caleb as our fearless (mostly cautious) leader through the crosswalks raced ahead, the rest of us ran behind stoping briefly under awnings and dry spots... In a matter of seconds we were soaked! Then the thunder and lightening started up! At this point I embraced the rain as I ran though the streets! How cool is that?! How many people get to say they sprinted, jumped and leaped through the streets of Rome! As wet and cold as we all got it was a kind of erie and magical experience that I will never ever forget!

  1. Loved hearing about your dinner, discussion, and dash through the rain! At least you weren't too far from home! Getting on that bus and heading south from Rome marks a significant change in the trip. You will love the Villa. Please give Mina and her mother hugs from me.
